There has not been a repeat winner in the NFC East since the 2003 and 2004 seasons, and with a new future on the horizon in the nation’s capital, there is a real chance that the Washington Commanders turn a few heads during the 2023 NFL season.
Washington Commanders best bets: Expert picks for 2023 NFL futures odds
The Commanders are often thought of as one of the worst teams in the league, but they have won seven or more games in seven of the last eight seasons, which includes an 8-8-1 2022 campaign.
Could this be the year Washington breaks through? We looked at different betting markets from the top online sportsbooks to find the best value for all things Commanders.
Check out our odds and best bets for the NFC East division ahead of the 2023 NFL season.
Washington Commanders NFC East odds: (+1000 or better)
Let’s play the hit one more time: No team has won the NFC East in consecutive seasons in nearly two decades. The Philadelphia Eagles won in 2023 and are favored to do so again, and the Dallas Cowboys are the next in line.
The New York Giants also exceeded expectations and are the popular dark horse pick in the division, but we believe the Commanders are just as likely to win the division and have even greater value.
Washington topped the league in a sneakily-important category -- time of possession -- and was also third and eighth in total and scoring defense in 2022.
Adding former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy to the mix will give them much more pop on offense and could lead them to their first double-digit win season since 2012.
Washington Commanders win total prop: Over 6.5 (-122 or better)
The win total market is a less risky, “watered down” market for Commanders bettors that aren’t ready to take the plunge on them winning the division.
The Commanders averaged two wins against the division over the past five seasons. That means they’d need to pick up five wins against non-rivals to cash the over.
Standout opportunities come against the Arizona Cardinals, Chicago Bears, Atlanta Falcons, Los Angeles Rams and Denver Broncos.
They’ll also have the chance to improve their historical performances in the division and pull a few upsets, which they have the talent to do.
Washington Commanders player props: Emmanuel Forbes to win NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year: (+1800 or better)
Forbes has all of the potential in the world. He was the highest-graded corner in a dominant SEC and allowed a passer rating of just 1.4 when lined up in man coverage.
Forbes may run into issues because of his size. He was listed at just 6-feet and 166 pounds ahead of the draft, but Washington’s website has him checking in at 180 pounds.
The 16th overall pick is expected to start opposite Kendall Fuller and will have the chance to make plays.
If the Commanders are going to achieve the team success that we are optimistic they can, then Forbes will likely be a major reason why and could thrive in individual award races.

- Washington Commanders NFC East odds: (+1000 or better)

- Washington Commanders player props: Emmanuel Forbes to win NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year: (+1800 or better)
